SW Portland Kitchen Design Inspired by “The Day the Earth Stood Still”
Being influenced by a movie poster was only the beginning. Creating a relationship between the contemporary/playful living room and the traditional craftsman dining room had its own set of challenges. The pumpkin orange living room and the tomato red dining room with the kitchen right in the middle just added to the tasks.
Three species of wood in three stains unify the woods from the dining and living rooms. Custom tile mosaic in blue, yellow and orange harmonize with the pumpkin of the living room. Mid-Century Modern influences (stainless dish knobs, “rocket” pendants from Rejuvenation Lighting, slab door) synchronize with the movie poster. Countertops (FSC Maple & Nordic Black Antiqued granite) make food preparation a breeze. All come together to create a kitchen that is truly “out of this world”.
