I have just left Milan – heading back to the states with my head full of design inspiration.  Here I sit on the plane just organizing my photos into trends that I saw at Salone de Mobile. Over the course of the next weeks – I plan on sharing what I saw as the upcoming trends.

Creative Cabinet Doors

Cabinet Doors – most of what we saw was slab doors with integrated hardware – clean and simple – this has been around for quite some time.  The difference is the finish.

Yes, we have been incorporating wood veneers, paint and laminate in the states for the past few years, but now we are seeing stone for cabinet doors, metal, glass – and not just coloured glass – but patterned and plastered finishes – that’s right, plaster for a cabinet door.

Woods are 3 dimensional with stamped patterning or built as a 3-D aesthetic.

Touch latch doors are big now – but in my opinion, not the best option for wood doors (the oils on your hands will eventually wear on the finish.  Laminates, metals, stone, and even pattern glass will do well with touch latch hardware.

Sliding doors that either partially or fully hide storage or appliances were everywhere.  I especially like the aesthetic when the doors are covering the pantry or appliances, they have uncovered a display set of shelving.
